Two years ago, as we anticipate our 35th wedding anniversary, we booked a cruise to the Western Caribbean on Royal Caribbean. Even though our actual anniversary is in February, it is hard to take a lot of time in February because of work and Year End issues. The time for the cruise finally arrived. We got up at 3:30 AM on Saturday, April 19 and drove to the airport. Our flight left at 6:00 AM. After a short layover in Dallas, we flew on to Fort Lauderdale. We checked into the hotel and went for a walk.
We were walking across a draw bridge at rush hour, when a (rental) car pulled to a stop in the lane. A guy hopped out ran to the rails, and took some pictures of Downtown Fort Lauderdale at twilight. It was weird, especially since this was a draw bridge, the kind that opens up to let sailboats go through. After a few pictures, he got back into his car and drove off, Sure enough, just as he drove off, the lights started to flash, the control arms came down and the bridge went up.
That night we ate at a little boating club. The food and atmosphere were wonderful.
The next morning we took a shuttle to the cruise port. We had our documents and passports in order, so we mostly walked through the process. It took as about 45 minutes to get through the process. On the boat, we ate lunch at the Windjammer café, and hung out at the pool. The noise gradually grew louder, as more and more passengers boarded. At 4:00 pm. we
walked down to our muster area for mandatory emergency training. Then we went up top to take a few pictures of the port and land as we left the port.
After Dinner, we got dressed up to watch "Chicago." The production was wonderful, of course.
On Day 2, we were at sea. We mostly walked around the boat and hung out at the pool. It was one of those relaxing days that people dream about, because not only do you not have to do anything, it is hard to actually do anything.
